Health Secretary Wes Streeting gave the green light after reviewing hospital projects. He mentioned that this new plan is honest and actually funded. Local MP Chris Vince is thrilled, saying it’s the first real plan they’ve had for the hospital.
Remember when Boris Johnson promised a new hospital back in 2019? They hoped to finish it by 2030, but things didn’t go as planned. Now, the government’s review shows construction won’t kick off until a decade later.
The cost has also skyrocketed. Initially, they thought it would be around £600 million, but now it’s estimated to be between £1.5 billion and £2 billion. That’s a huge jump!
Wes Streeting pointed out that the previous hospital program was a mess. No new hospitals were built in the last five years, and there was no solid funding plan. He’s determined to change that.
