Isaac Perry, a brave six-year-old from Colchester, is celebrated for overcoming cancer and other health challenges, earning a special award for his courage.
His mom, Lucy, nominated him for a Cancer Research UK Star Award. She’s so proud of him. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster,” she said. Isaac faced many health challenges, but he never gave up.
He finished his treatment in September and is excited about getting a new prosthetic leg. He calls it his “robot” leg, which is just adorable.
Isaac was born with a lymphatic malformation, which led to the amputation of his foot when he was just one. After that, he seemed to recover well. But then, he caught E.coli and went into septic shock shortly after his fourth birthday.
Things got tougher when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He went through two years of chemotherapy and had nine surgeries.
Finally, he returned home to his family, including his dad, Nial, who is his full-time carer, and his two siblings. Lucy said, “Sepsis has tried to take our son twice now, but he fought back.”
She hopes he won’t have to face these battles again. “He makes us proud every day,” she added. Isaac’s Star Award means a lot to their family.
Lucy shared how far he’s come. “From fighting for his life to starting school, it blows us away,” she said. After two long years of treatment, Isaac finally rang the bell to celebrate the end of it.
Patrick Keely from Cancer Research UK praised Isaac, calling him a real star. “It’s a privilege to celebrate his courage,” he said.
