Edinburgh: A bingo hall in Leith closed its doors for good on Sunday night. Locals filled the place to celebrate its long history.

This building at 24 Manderston Street has been around for ages. It started as a cinema and became a bingo hall in the ’60s. It’s been a favorite spot ever since.

Now, Club 3000 Bingo is moving to Ocean Terminal. The old bingo hall will be turned into student accommodation.

Stacey Scott, who was there, shared her thoughts. She said, “Tonight the ‘Cappy’ bingo in Leith closed its doors after 60 plus years. The end of an era!”

Club 3000 Bingo announced their new venue will open on January 25, 2025, just in time for Burns Night. They’re investing £5.5 million into this new space.

The new club will have modern features and create 25 new jobs while keeping the current staff. Brian Fraser, the founder, is excited about this new chapter.

He said, “Opening in January 2025 is a huge milestone for us. We can’t wait to join the Ocean Terminal community.”

The new venue will be massive, with 1,350 seats and 800 parking spaces. Meanwhile, the old bingo hall will be transformed into 201 student rooms.

Developers aim to enhance the area’s character with this project. They believe it will help regenerate the neighborhood.

Oberlanders Architects, who are behind the plans, said this development will provide much-needed student housing.
