Travelers in Edinburgh are warned to stay put as Storm Éowyn approaches, bringing severe weather and potential disruptions to services this Friday
They’ve issued warnings about severe weather hitting the central belt on Friday, January 24. LNER won’t run any trains north of Newcastle after 11 am. They’re advising folks not to head to stations north of York.
TransPennine is also urging people to stay put. They’re warning against travel between Manchester and Liverpool, as well as routes from York to Newcastle or Edinburgh. Gale-force winds are expected.
An amber weather warning is in effect for Edinburgh and the Lothians from 6 am to 9 pm on Friday. There’s also a yellow wind warning for Saturday.
Storm Éowyn could cause power cuts and disrupt road, rail, air, and ferry services. It might even damage buildings and pose risks to safety.
LNER shared their advice on Wednesday night, stressing the importance of staying safe. If you have a ticket for Friday, you can use it on another LNER service on Thursday or travel later until Monday, January 27.
If you decide not to travel, you can get a full refund. They’re sorry for any hassle this may cause. TransPennine echoed this, urging customers to avoid certain routes due to the predicted winds.
