A shoe repair shop in Edinburgh is set to become an underground pub, offering a fresh spot for locals to enjoy drinks and socialize.
The spot, located at 21A Castle Street, used to be H Robertson. Now, HIFI Ventures Limited wants to transform it into a lively public house.
If the plans go through, the lower ground floor will have a bar with cozy seating booths. There’ll even be a small staircase leading to another seating area. Plus, toilets will be on the same floor, while the basement will be for storage.
Details about the bar and who will run it are still under wraps. The council planners will review the change of use application soon.
Previously, the site was up for sale for over £300,000. Commercial property consultants described it as a self-contained retail unit in a four-storey stone building.
Access is easy, with wide stairs leading right off Castle Street. Inside, it’s still set up as a shoe repair shop, but that’s about to change!
The lower ground floor is open and could work for other uses too, depending on planning. The basement has its own staircase at the back.
You can check out the application online if you’re curious!
