Family Day Out in Edinburgh for Five-Year-Old After Life-Saving Heart Transplant

Edinburgh: A brave little girl named Evie Green had a fantastic family day out. After spending over a year in the hospital, she finally got to enjoy life again.

Evie, just five years old, was diagnosed with myocarditis as a baby. This condition made her heart weak and inflamed, leading to the urgent need for a transplant.

In spring 2023, she was placed on a Berlin Heart Ventricular Assist Device. This meant she couldn’t run or play like other kids. She had to stay in the hospital, connected to the machine.

Last summer, Evie received her heart transplant. Her family, living in Middlesbrough, got support from The Charlie and Carter Foundation. They help families with critically ill children.

Thanks to Lumo and the foundation, Evie and her family got a special trip to Edinburgh. They visited the zoo and Camera Obscura, and Evie even got to ride in Lumo’s driver’s cab.

Evie’s mom, Chloe, expressed their gratitude for the trip. She said it was wonderful to finally enjoy days out after such a long hospital stay. They explored Edinburgh, visited the zoo, and walked along the Royal Mile.

Martijn Gilbert, Lumo’s Managing Director, shared how happy they were to provide this memorable day for Evie and her family. After all the time spent in the hospital, it was nice to give them a fun experience together.

Days like this were just a dream before Evie received her heart. It was a day they will cherish forever.
