Leith: Exciting news! The Pride Bridge is getting a makeover. Edinburgh City Council just approved plans to turn it into a lively community space.

This bridge, once set for demolition, became a beloved LGBT landmark after being painted in rainbow colors. Now, it’ll link Lindsay Road to the Hawthornvale Path, making it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The council’s decision came after a public consultation where nearly 1,000 people shared their thoughts. Everyone seems to be on board, especially local businesses that believe this will boost the area.

LGBT Youth Scotland is thrilled too, calling it an inclusive initiative that promotes healthy lifestyles and equality. The bridge will not only be restored but will also keep its vibrant Pride colors.

Chas Booth, a Green councillor, expressed his joy over the planning consent. He thanked everyone involved, especially the Save the Pride Bridge campaign.

While the costs are still being worked out, they could reach up to £1 million. But for now, it’s a huge win for the community and a step towards a brighter future for the Pride Bridge.
