Lidl is gearing up to open a new supermarket in Bishop’s Stortford, creating jobs and boosting the local economy with a £12 million investment
Construction is moving fast, and it’s expected to create about 40 new jobs. A Lidl spokesperson mentioned that employees will earn some of the best pay rates in the industry. Plus, the project is bringing in around £12 million to the local area.
It’s been a long journey, taking three and a half years to get here. The planning application was first submitted in July 2021. When the councillors approved it in December 2022, they said it would really help the local economy.
The new store will have a bakery, a special ‘Middle of Lidl’ aisle, and even baby-changing facilities in the restrooms. There will be 147 parking spots available in the spacious sales area of 1,334 square meters.
Kate Bleloch, Lidl’s regional property head, expressed her excitement about the project. She noted that 76% of local residents supported the plans during consultations. It’s clear that people are eager for Lidl’s value offerings in the area.
She also mentioned they’re on track to open before the end of 2025 and promised to keep the community updated as construction continues.
