Residents in Eastwood are upset about a hair salon in a neighbor’s garden, raising concerns about noise, traffic, and privacy issues.
They built a large outbuilding in their garden back in 2011. Since it’s been there for over ten years, it’s safe from enforcement action. But recently, they spruced it up and started using it as a salon. Now, they’re asking for permission after the fact.
The salon sees about seven clients a day, totaling 25 clients over five days. But not everyone is happy. Southend council got nine letters of complaint. Neighbors are worried about parking, noise, and the salon being out of place in their quiet area.
Paul Collins, a local councillor, is on the case. He’s heard from both sides and wants the committee to consider residents’ concerns. He believes the need for a salon in a back garden needs solid proof, especially with homes all around.
If the salon gets the green light, there will be strict rules. They can only operate from 9 am to 6 pm, Tuesday to Saturday. There can’t be more than two employees or three clients at a time, and they can’t book more than seven clients in a day.
A report for the committee meeting on Wednesday suggests that the salon won’t harm the neighborhood. It claims the development will fit in well and won’t cause major traffic or parking issues.
