A man on trial for murder says he was scared for his life before the incident. He claims he was attacked first, leading to the fatal confrontation.
Thaxted: A man named Kevin Horswill is on trial for murder. He says he was scared for his life before the incident. He claims Richard Langley attacked him first.
Horswill, 51, insists he didn’t mean to kill Langley, 52. He says he was just trying to restrain him after being attacked at Langley’s home. He described it as a “bear hug” to stop the assault.
Emergency services found Langley dead at his home last March. His wife discovered him after a night out. Horswill had walked to Langley’s place after a pub fight.
During the trial, Horswill said he felt he was going to be killed. He described how Langley pulled him through a gate and hit him with a tool. But he struggled to recall how things escalated.
The prosecutor pressed him on the details, asking why he remembered some things but not others. Horswill admitted he left Langley unconscious but insisted he was defending himself.
He also mentioned being in shock after hearing about Langley’s death. He had injuries and was treated in the hospital before being questioned by police.
Despite the evidence, Horswill maintains he didn’t strangle Langley. The trial is ongoing, and the jury will have to decide what really happened that night.
