A van owner in Chelmsford responds to complaints about his parking, suggesting neighbors can move if they’re unhappy with it. His TikTok post sparks debate.
Sean’s work van is too big for the parking lot at his flat. So, when there’s no space in front, he parks it down the street. Since he moved in last year, he’s received six notes asking him to park elsewhere. Some of them are pretty passive-aggressive, like “please park outside your own house.”
Interestingly, a couple of neighbors thanked him for moving his van. They mentioned they can’t see traffic when pulling out. Sean shared a video of the notes on TikTok, and it blew up, getting over 500,000 views.
When people suggested he should buy a house with a driveway, Sean shot back, saying if they don’t like his van, they can move. He feels bad that his parking seems to upset people, but he’s open to moving it if they talk to him directly.
He finds the whole situation frustrating. He can’t leave the van at a depot, and it won’t fit in the parking garage. The UK’s Highway Code doesn’t ban parking in front of homes, but it does say not to block the road. Sean insists he’s not breaking any laws.
He’s noticed that some neighbors are overly protective of their area. He gets it’s a big van, but he wishes they’d just come and chat with him instead of leaving notes. He tries to park outside his flat when he can, but it’s a busy street.
Sean’s troubles started last July when a neighbor confronted him while he was on his balcony. He’s moved the van further down the street, but he hasn’t heard any complaints from his landlord.
During the week, he takes the van to work early and brings it back late. His latest TikTok post has sparked a lot of comments, with some people supporting him and others saying he should move it.
One note even asked him to move the van for a gathering. Sean replied that he parks where he can and doesn’t mean to upset anyone. The debate continues, with some saying he’s legally allowed to park there as long as he’s not blocking anything.
