Edinburgh: Police are asking everyone to avoid The Pleasance and Cowgate. They’re looking into some materials that were found, but they’re not dangerous.

This weekend, officers cordoned off Cowgate. They had a few vehicles on the scene. Then on Tuesday, they closed several roads again as a bomb disposal unit showed up.

The police got the call around 4:45 PM on Sunday. They found the materials in a building on The Pleasance. For a while, the area was blocked off, and residents were given shelter.

Good news: the materials turned out to be non-hazardous. Still, the police are keeping some roads closed while they continue their investigation.

The roads affected include The Pleasance, Cowgate to Guthrie Street, and St Mary’s Street to Market Street. Holyrood to Queen’s Drive is also closed.

Police Scotland issued a warning on Tuesday, January 21. They said they’re working on the situation and need to keep those roads closed for now.

On Tuesday, a bomb disposal van and police vehicle were seen at High School Yards, which is just a short distance from Cowgate.

Police Scotland has been contacted for more information.
