Edinburgh: So, Cammy Day, the former leader of the Edinburgh City Council, is still involved in the Homes for Ukraine program. This is despite facing some pretty serious allegations of sexual harassment against Ukrainian refugees.

He’s still listed as a host for the UK Government’s scheme, which helps place vulnerable refugees in homes. It’s a program that’s helped around 18,700 Ukrainians find shelter in Scotland. Hosts can get paid between £350 and £500 a month, but Day hasn’t said if he’s taking that money.

Interestingly, he’s got a Ukrainian refugee living in one of his four properties in Edinburgh. This comes after he stepped down as council leader last month when news broke about his explicit messages to refugees.

The council has checked in on the refugee, but many are questioning why Day is still part of the program. Simita Kumar, the SNP group leader, expressed her concerns about the safety of vulnerable adults. She believes Day should step down from the scheme immediately.

There’s also an investigation into Day because one of his properties had someone living there without him being a registered landlord. He claims to part-own three properties, and checks show he owns two outright and shares ownership of two others.

Officials are looking into whether he’s acting as a landlord and if he’s making money from anyone living in his properties. Some sources close to him say the tenant is just a relative and that he’s not getting any rent from them.

On top of all this, there’s a police investigation into his behavior, which now includes his messages to Ukrainian refugees. Disclosure Scotland mentioned that it’s up to organizations to ensure hosts are suitable. A council spokesperson said they couldn’t comment, and Day hasn’t responded to inquiries.
